When the creator of a popular video game system dies, a virtual contest is created to compete for his fortune.
A better reality awaits.
My Two Cents
Ready Player One is basically a love letter to pop culture, wrapped inside a high-stakes virtual adventure. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film throws you into the OASIS – a massive virtual universe where anything is possible, and every corner hides a reference waiting to be discovered. It’s the kind of movie where you’ll probably miss half the Easter eggs on your first watch, and that’s part of the fun. Beyond the spectacle, it also touches on themes of escapism, identity, and the balance between real life and digital life. The pacing rarely slows down, making it an easy, engaging watch from start to finish. It may not reinvent the genre, but it delivers exactly what it promises: pure entertainment. If you’ve ever lost yourself in a game or wished you could, this movie hits that sweet spot.
This is one of those movies I’d happily rewatch, especially when I just want something fun and visually exciting. It doesn’t try too hard to be deep, but it still manages to say something meaningful about how we use technology to escape reality. The nostalgia factor is strong, sometimes almost overwhelming, but if you grew up around games, movies, and pop culture, it works in its favor.
“People come to the OASIS for all the things they can do,
but they stay because of all the things they can be.“
Parzival / Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan)

North of Nowhere
South of Somewhere
In movies, people always have their windows open and never get mosquitoes. That’s the real fantasy.
I went online to look up one thing. Now it’s 3:00 AM, I’ve seen four conspiracy theories, and I know how to make sourdough from scratch.
My favorite subject line is ‘Quick Question,’ which is almost always a lie involving a four-hour task.
