Follow three professional video game players as they overcome personal adversity, family pressures, and the realities of life to compete in a $1,000,000 tournament that could change their lives forever.
One game will change their lives.
My Two Cents
Free to Play is less about gaming and more about people chasing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It captures a moment when esports was still proving itself, making the stakes feel raw and real. Even if you’ve never touched a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), the human stories pull you in.
It’s surprisingly emotional for a gaming documentary. The focus on three players keeps things grounded and personal, even if it doesn’t explore the wider esports scene deeply. This is one of the first glimpses into how serious competitive gaming could be.
I first watched this on December 20, 2015. You can actually watch this documentary for free on YouTube now.

So computer games.“
